Facts: Polar Bear Passage was another great interactive design by PGAV. This new Exhibit gives guests great vantage points all the way around the Polar Bears Habitat. The featured area of this exhibit is the underwater viewing building, where guests come face to face with "Nikita", the Zoo's first Polar Bear. Polar Bear Passages pool contains 140,000 gallons of water. The split level glass viewing panels are 12' 6" tall and 7' wide and a surprising 2.5" thick and weigh 2,500 pounds. Adding another level of difficulty to the installation was that several of the panels were mitered at the bottom to follow the ever changing elevation of the exhibit's pathway. The Kansas City Zoo was a great facility to work at and we at Hammerhead look forward to future projects at this great zoo. |
